FAQ
Our expert answers your questions
How do you use the tin opener?
Slip the fine blade beneath the rim of the lid, close to the sealed edge. Apply a gentle, steady pressure, using the handle as a lever, to lift the lid little by little. Without forcing or rushing the gesture, the lid comes away cleanly. Once open, the tin can be set on a bed of crushed ice (ideally within a caviar set) to hold the ideal temperature during the tasting.
Why not just an ordinary knife?
An ordinary knife can work to open a tin of caviar, particularly tins that are not vacuum-sealed. But the gesture lacks precision: the blade can slip, damage the rim, or even spoil the pearls nearby. The dedicated tin opener offers a more precise, safer gesture, particularly for airtight tins. It also avoids the risk of cuts when applying leverage.
Does the tin opener work on every tin format?
Yes, our tin opener is designed for the main Caviar House and Prunier tin formats (30 g, 50 g, 125 g, 250 g).
Does the tin opener make a good gift to accompany an order?
Yes, it is one of our most frequently gifted accessories alongside a caviar order. It turns the order into a more complete experience, in which the recipient has, right away, the tool to open their tin cleanly. For a more structured gift, the tin opener can be paired with a mother-of-pearl spoon and a caviar set.
Find the tin opener that is right for you
Our signature, the Caviar Tin Opener, is designed specially for tins of caviar. Its fine blade and ergonomic lever lift the lid gently, without harm to the pearls. Suitable for the main Caviar House and Prunier tin formats (30 g, 50 g, 125 g, 250 g). A clever gift to offer alongside a tin, or an essential to treat yourself to for your next tastings.
When should you use a dedicated tin opener?
The dedicated caviar tin opener is particularly useful for vacuum-sealed or airtight tins, which can be difficult to open with an ordinary knife. It is also recommended for enthusiasts who open tins regularly, as it ensures a precise, repeatable gesture. For more conventional tins, the tip of a well-sharpened knife may suffice, but the tin opener remains more practical and safer for the product.
The tin opener, a precise gesture for a delicate product
Opening the tin is a particularly delicate moment: a clumsy gesture can crush the pearls near the rim, or leave marks on the lid that spoil the visual experience. This is why a dedicated tool, designed for this precise gesture, makes all the difference.
Our tin opener follows a simple logic: a tool that does well what it is designed to do. A fine blade, an ergonomic lever, a design suited to the main tin sizes: everything is conceived to make the gesture easier. This accessory is one of those that prove particularly useful in practice, all the more so as the tastings multiply. It is this discreet usefulness that sets it apart from more ornamental accessories.
